MICROPLASTICS INITIATIVE

Why are microplastics a main concern now?

Synthetic textiles is responsible for the release of 8% of European microplastics into the ocean, of which the majority is mainly from the first few washes. Globally, this amount is estimated to be between 16% and 35%.

How well microplastics transport pollutants depend chiefly on three factors: the type of plastic, the type of pollutant and the environmental conditions.

The European Union is starting to take actions about microplastics release. Many of the initiatives are under construction and will create changes for the textile industry and consumers in the coming years.

In this publications we dive into the challenges of microplastics and look at the solutions and regulations that the EU will present in the coming years.
